QUERIES FOR THE NEWSLETTER

Members of Kingston Branch may submit queries for free. Write directly to [email protected] and put “Query for newsletter” in the subject field.

  • Include your contact information.
  • Make sure your query contains distinct references to people who lived in our area (Frontenac and Lennox & Addington Counties) and/or events that occurred here.
  • We don’t publish queries about people who are still living.

LOOK-UPS IN LOCAL RESOURCES

This is a service to distant genealogists. Please send your query to [email protected]. These inquiries are answered by volunteers. Depending on the availability of volunteers and the volume of requests, responses may take 4-6 weeks. Volunteers will search publications in our library collection which are not available online. Examples include cemetery transcriptions, family histories and microfilm of the Kingston Whig-Standard. Volunteers may also suggest other resources for the researcher to consult (eg. church archives, Digital Kingston). Volunteers will not search subscription websites or any other online databases.

We do not charge a fee for our research services. However you will be asked to make a donation to Kingston Branch via Canada Helps. A good first step is to search for your ancestor in one or both of the following indexes:

If you find a name of interest from our area (indicated by a reference number beginning with KG in OCFA) send the ancestor’s name and cemetery information to the research email address listed above.

LOCAL RESEARCHERS

The following branch members are independent local researchers who will carry out genealogical research for you in the Kingston area. Feel free to contact one or all of them to find out their areas of expertise and their fees. Please tell them that you found their name on the Kingston Branch website.

When you communicate with a researcher, please provide as much specific information on your query as you can. In addition, note that your agreement is with them as individuals. Kingston Branch cannot accept responsibility for any errors, omissions, or claims resulting from their findings.
