October 16th, 2021, at 10 a.m., Elise C. Cole will present: Copyright and the Family Historian.

Family Historians both use and create materials to which copyright applies, and both actions can create uncertainty. When conducting research, we are unsure about when to ask permission to reproduce the information we’ve uncovered. In the case of our own work, how do we ensure it is protected from being copied without our consent? Come to this session to learn how to more easily navigate copyright issues as a Family Historian.

Elise C. Cole holds a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Political Studies and English from Queen’s University and a Masters of Library and Information Studies from McGill. In addition to being the Local Collections Librarian at Oakville Public Library, she also volunteers as Ontario Ancestors’ Copyright Consultant. She holds multiple certifications in Canadian Copyright law and is a passionate advocate for local and family history.

Elise Cole has requested that if there are specific questions about copyright and publishing information, that those questions be sent to her in advance. Please send them to [email protected]
