* Except for the inevitable bugs, which will keep appearing and which we will keep fixing…
The Website Upgrade Project

The project to upgrade the Kingston Branch OGS Website, which started in late January, involved three phases:
- Phase 1: Initial conversion to the new theme (Customizr Pro).
- Phase 2: Reorganization of the site and adjustments to pages, posts, and events, including the addition of many graphics.
- Phase 3: Thorough shakedown of bugs, conversion of more complex challenges, and addition of new functionality and pages. (Users should continue to send bug reports to [email protected].
Phase 3 Complete
The final phase of the upgrade is now complete. The site is operating reliably, and although bugs are still being reported and fixed, the flow has slowed to a trickle. The churn, involving frequent significant changes, has subsided.
Remaining Activities
We are working on new features and functions on the site, including a searchable index of the Cataraqui Cemetery Burial Register. This register covers all burials at Cataraqui Cemetery since 1853, and has over 34,000 entries.
More to come very soon.
Looking for Content
It is still our goal that this website becomes a dynamic, growing medium for communications, research, sharing of information, and recruiting. We are hoping that Branch members, as well as the public, will come forward to contribute material. We are looking for:
- Family history stories
- Research stories
- “How to” tips and instructions
- Research aids
- Book reviews
- Webinar summaries and reviews
- Reviews of tools and sites for making trees, analyzing DNA, collecting stories, etc.
- Interesting links to follow
- Photographs
- Graphics
- Flow Charts
- Trees
- Send an email to [email protected] with your contribution.
Before and After
For context, here is the website as it appears on 20 April 2025.
The upper portion shows the Feature Pages displayed at the top of the home page.
These Feature Pages will change from time to time to highlight a particular page within the website or a special event or item of broader interest.

The lower portion of the home page shows a running list of our articles or blog posts, with the most recent items at the top.
Several of the more recent posts are shown on the home page.
The complete list of articles or posts (including older posts) is available here or by clicking the “Articles” menu item at the top.

And, to jog your memory, this is what the home page looked like before the conversion.
I think we are better off today, even if some adjustments are still needed.

Thanks!
Alan
