November 21, 2009— Paul Juniper spoke about the Royal Antediluvian Order of the Buffalo, a fraternal lodge to which his grandfather belonged. He showed his extensive collection of Buffalo regalia, and gave suggestions on breaching the secretive world of friendly societies and Masonic lodges.
October 17, 2009— Nancy Cutway demonstrated Legacy Family Tree, software for recording your family history. She explained how to download the free Standard version and how to move data from another program to Legacy in order to try it. She then showed a number of the program’s features.
September 19, 2009— Patricia Mailey of Kingston and Bill Flynn of Sydenham spoke of their experiences on Ancestors in the Attic, the program on History Channel. Armed with photos of the filming process, they described how a 12-hour day of filming turned into about 8 minutes of program. The show’s researchers were able to give them some additional information, perhaps not as much as hoped, but it was an interesting experience.
May 23, 2009— OGS Kingston held a Silent Auction of books, newsletters and other materials of genealogical interest. The proceeds went to the Branch Library for additional purchases.
April 18, 2009— Melanie King spoke about the Quarriers, who brought over 7000 children from Scotland to Canada.
March 21, 2009— Marg Thompson discussed tracing her ancestors “From County Wicklow, Ireland to Hungerford, Hastings County, Ontario”.
February 21, 2009— David St. Onge, Curator of the Canadian Penitentiary Museum, and Youko Leclerc-Desjardins spoke about “Archival Resources at the Canadian Penitentiary Museum”, and about the Penitentiary Research Service.
January 17, 2009— A panel of Members discussed the relative merits of the genealogical software that they have used.
